Write about your assignment 3 research process so far.
My research process is so far so good. I have read various articles and journals regarding the
effects of air pollution on human and wildlife health. One scholarly source that I found regarding this was written by Hankey, Steve, Julian D. Marshall, and Michael Brauer. The name of the article is “Health Impacts of the Built Environment: Within-Urban Variability in Physical
Inactivity, Air Pollution, and Ischemic Heart Disease Mortality." The source’s research question is focus on the effects of air pollution in relation to physical activity. Their main argument is that different types of neighborhoods contributed to more physical activity and how the different neighborhoods might help the problem of exposure to air pollution. The ideas that I may extract are that if individuals take the step of incorporating physical exercises in their lifestyle, they may help solve or cope with the problem of air pollution. Whereas this may not be an effective solution, it’s one of the articles that I found but may be on the lookout for others which may have even better solutions to this environmental problem.

Good work so far. This is really interesting.
I want to steer you toward a more systemic question. Should we put the responsibility of the effects of air pollution on average residents who may or may not be causing it? Or should we consider the problem more systemically? How might we re-organize our urban environments / neighborhoods so that less pollution is produced?
Again, I encourage you to define “pollution” very specifically. Don’t try to talk about about all air pollution. Specify.
Also, what debates are being had around this? Can you hit on a genuine scholarly conversation?
Good!
I am still in the beginning stages but I decided that I was going to focus on Ocean Acidification because I was recently on my Instagram and saw a post from a group of environmentalist that showed fishes washing up on shore dead. Which I thought was extremely terrifying but after reading I found that it was often actually because of the pollution in water. However, as I am researching I am finding that there is many of effects of water pollution. One that I am finding really important and I think I may focus more on is the ocean acidiciation and coral reefs. I know that I have to focus my research a bit more , I am just having a bit of a little trouble in finding a goo research question, one that is not obvious. One reading that I thought was one of the better that I have come across was a comparison of coral reef normal growth vs growth in acidity compared to global warming growth “Ocean acidification affects coral growth by reducing skeletal density” by Nathaniel R. Mollica, Weifu Guo, Anne L. Cohen, Kuo-Fang Huang, Gavin L. Foster, Hannah K. Donald, and Andrew R. Solow. This article I like because I was void of emotions but had fact and research to support there theory, which I found more as a effective way in getting the cause and effect nature between coral reef and acidity. Although at some points I did not understand what I was reading especially when it came to the charts I got the overall just of it. I am going to try and find more articles that are research base and maybe compare them as to how well the say what they are trying to say.
